We started this project by actually learning what was during the rennaissance and learned about rhe plague and what ahppened to these poor people who got effected by this. We also got assigned to a certain person to learn about that person and all about his/her whole entire life. And how they had to do with the rennaissance. Then what we learned ahd to be tested on a ball at the end of the project. We had to tell other people about our person and what we learned about our person and made sure that we knew about them well enough to tell other people.

WHAT I LEARNED: I learned a lot about the rennaissance in general, that was what it was all about is to learn how it started and why it even went on. I actually had heard about the plague before but never really heard about it so I was interested when I actually found out what it was. I learned about my sepcific person that I probably would have never even thought of researching on until this project. I learned alot about his family his kids his child hood it was like I knew about his whole life. I still do kknow a lot about him I think that I could go up and tell somone this uys life story. I also learned about the dance that they would do back then it was called the "Pavon".

REFLECTION: I liked this project because I had never done somthing like it before and have a ball at the end of it. It was a very unique project and I liked it because we got to dress up and be a different person for 2 hours at a ball and tell people about the person. I would spend more hard time on my autobigraphy because I feel that I could have gotten a higher score if I had just taken a real good look at it. I feel that I did not do EXCELLENT on this project but I also do not feel that I did bad so I feel like I was in the middle and did pretty good.

ARTIFACTS:
http://www.lucidcafe.com/library/96jan/lorenzo.html
http://www.yesnet.yk.ca/schools/projects/renaissance/medici.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorenzo_de'_Medici

Romek #3

1: I thought that he was very describing and VERY deatailed. Especially when he was telling about how his brother died I found that very very emotional. I liked how he told more about his sister and why he did not have a picture of his father. So he made sure that we understood why certain things were not there.

2: I think that David was pretty smart for escaping even though he was planning to get right home but they still helped. I thought that it was nice that they fed him and took care of him when they didn''t just make him work and by working he urn's his food. So I thougt they were pretty fair.

3: I think that maybe they thought he was a little boy and he had already seen his brother die right in front of him a very graphic death. Maybe they felt is just was not worth it. Also he did not really know anything like they said.

Romek #2

1: At first I did not really know what the significance was of that bird. I knew right after the mom said there's some reason why that bird did not come back and she said for them to hide. Then it ended up that she was right and the Nazi's came. I thought that was really interesting how the mom knew that there is a reason the bird did not come back with all of the others.

2: The way that they treat them is definatly not like a vacation at all. This is the part that I really did not get is why was it called Vacation camp it did not seem liek a vacation to me or David. Maybe it is just a trick sign to make it seem like "oh its vacation camp nothing is that bad" but once david faber got in there it did nt seem like a vacation at all.

3: Question #1: What was your emidiate reaction on the first time you heard the big loud noises coming from the outside of the house you were living in". I didn't think that they had to do work like do the potholes in the street I just thought they took them away to some place. I thought that was really fascintaing to me because I never knew that.

2 A: I think that they are very caring for eachother. Because I know it would be sad to have ur dad taken away, but they would like just cry out of know where because of him being taken away. I know how much David really wanted to get to his dad and make sure that he was ok. And his sisters were very scared for there dad.

B: I think that maybe he remembered that part because that is how it all started. How everything started also he gave us a little brief description from that one kid calling him names. So we actually knew how mean other people were (not Jewish people).

3: The rescue of his father really showed me how brave and caring he is about his family. Like when he was heling his dad and telling him "I'll help you up the stairs you can make it", it showed me he wanted to help. He took risks for his family and it wouldn't matter if there was gaurds (the Nazis) around there he still wanted to see his dad and help him.

Aztec Mural Proejct Reflection

Name: Lexi Alvarez

Project Reflection

Project Title: Aztec Mural Project (Hummanities)

Letter: A Dates: 5-5-2008

PURPOSE
In this section, explain what you were supposed to learn and what you were supposed to do.

Sentence Starters
The purpose of this project was to learn about…
In order to learn about _________________, we had to create/perform/ write/etc…

The purpose of this project was to explore Aztec Murals and create our own. We got to learn about Aztec Culture. We actually got to go to Chicano park and observe actual mural's so we could get ideas for our own mural's. Basically we learned all about Aztecs and there ways of living. Such as how they dress what they eat there education and many more. I thought the actual mural's in Chicano were cool and I learned a lot of things that I could use for my mural. Like put a lot of different things so your is not just drawn to one particular spot. Also make it very bright and not so dull. I tryed to use a lot of different things in my mural I did a pryamid.

WHAT I LEARNED
In this section, tell what academic information or skills you learned or improved.

Sentence Starters
I learned about…
I explored the concept of …
In this project, I learned how to…. (skills)

I learned a lot on the society and the Aztec life style. I used all that information to put into my own mural I did actually need all of that knowledge. I needed to use their market and how they dressed for my mural. So all of the papers and the researching paid off. But we were in groups so it made it easier because we all had different ideas for our mural. What we did was sort of combined our ideas together. To make an Aztec pyramid the actually showed the cultures and an example of that cultures. I liked the mural most of the time because we got to make our own of what we saw

REFLECTION
In this section, reflect on your experience. Did you like the project? Why or why not? How did you do? What would you do differently next time?

Sentence Starters
I enjoyed this project because…
I feel like I could have done better on this project because…
Next time, I would…

I did not love this project but I did not hate it either. I liked it because we got to make our own mural because we got to go look at real ones painted by really good artist’s. Then we sort of got to do exactly what they did except not as professional. I feel like the whole group could have had more better teamwork and an actual technique of doing our mural. I think that we could have done way better on our artist statement because since I was gone I could not help and if I would have known who was doing it I would have helped them. Next time I would defiantly try to figure out what is going on so that I can help.

WORK HABITS
Complete the following section about your work habits. How did you manage your time in and outside of class? What parts of the project were you responsible for? What strategies did you use when you had difficulty understanding or completing the project?

Sentence Starters
I was responsible for…
I had difficulty…
Next time, I should have…

I was responsible for mainly just doing everything we would all work on something together like switch off jobs. So I would do the sketching then Erica would do the sketching and so on. Also same with painting it would be the same cycle. I was the second most powerful person in the group so when Erica was gone I would be in charge and sometimes I would have a hard time controlling the boys because they would get a little off task..

ARTIFACTS
You should have at least one artifact from each project on your DP. What document, picture, or link will you have for this project?

I used the papers and notes that Miss. Interlandi had us do. I used the internet like google.com too look up images.

Final Post (I have lived A thousand years)

Name: Lexi Alvvarez Title: I Have Lived a Thousand Years Author: Livia Bitton-Jackson Total pages this week: 83 Date: April 22nd, 2008 Pages: 140-223

Response:
I think that this book made me really think of how this girl really felt during the whole situation. Like what if I was in her shoes or how she really handled these things step by step since the book does not tell every little detail. When I actually started reading the book to be honest I thought it was going to be a boring book with no real good stuff going on. But until I really got into it I thought that it was a real good and interesting book.

I think that the book itself is all about maybe learning. Like learning about the Holocaust and what really happened. And that sometimes she (Elli) would have to leave stuff behind and have to give up stuff. This book also made me question on alot of things in the end alot of those questions were answered but I also do have. One of my mane questions would be what is the message to this book?? Because I could nto actually fina a message to the book.

Did you find a message? If so what do you think it is?

Name: Lexi Alvarez Title: I Have Lived a Thousand Years Author: Livia Bitton-Jackson Total Pages This Week: 100 Date: April 13th, 2008 Pages: 40-140

In this book so far I just I see a lot of mean and sad things going on here. Such as like when the Hunagarian Police would not let the mother keep that picure. I thought that was a really sad part the least they can do is let her keep a picture. I feel bad for all of the people who are going under all of that pressure of how mean those people are to them.

I think that Elli is the best character and obviously the main character of the book. Also I think that her mom trys to stay strong but sometimes she breaks down. I feel bad for Ellie because of her dad. This book makes me just sort of real sad. I see her mother as the second most main character in this book. I cant wait to finish this book and actually find out how this book will actually end off.

Question: Do you think that book will end in a positive note or negative? I know that I have only read 40 pages but still I think that I would sort f get why it is called "I have Lived a Thousand Years". Ellie seems like one of those people that are not very confdenceand she just does not think she is pretty or good at much. I thought that she has a lot of feelings because she has cried aout a couple things now and puted about puting her bike in the hall and she just has a lot of emotions. I think that I would be scared if some police people came to my house in the middle of the night and took stuff from my house. I thougth that was very odd but it is part of the book and I just had to think of what they were really doing at their house just taking there stuff. I think that it is wrong that they are being sort of racis against Jews and only making jews do what they have been doing.

My FAVORITE sentance is "Will I ever again sit behind this narrow desk furrowed by a thousand pencil marks? Will I ever again share secrets and moments of hilarity with my classmates?" I loved this senatnce because I liked how she described the desk with a thousand pencil markings and a norrow desk. I love it when books describe and go more in depth on just one small thing. It just describes how she shares her secrets and moments of hilarity with her friends. I thought it was a good desrciptive sentance.

What do you think Ellie's overall personality in the book so far?

MC Website Project Reflection

Name: Lexi Alvarez
Project Reflection: Post on your Blog
Project Title: MC Website Project
Class: Mrs. Interlandi- Humanities Dates: March 14 2008

*You may type directly in this document and copy and paste into blog, or simply address each of the following in a post. It should be approx. 2 pages worth of writing.

PURPOSE: In this section, explain what you were supposed to learn and what you were supposed to do.
Sentence Starters
-The purpose of this project was to learn about…
-In order to learn about _________________, we had to create/perform/ write/etc…

The purpose of this project was to pick a certain subject and learn more about it with the group that we were with. Our group chose The Crucible for the Project it was good for us because we already knew a lot about it from drama class. We did use some websites for more in depth info. In order to learn more we used every single bit of info that we remembered and used it to make some info on our site. Sometimes our group would have difficulties on trying to figure things out. We would sometimes get passed them but if we couldn't we would actually have to vote. I thought that my team really needed to just set our differences asside and just think of what is really important which was the SITE.

WHAT I LEARNED
In this section, tell what information or skills you learned or improved.
Sentence Starters
-I learned about…
-I explored the concepts/topics of …
-In this project, I learned how to…. (skills)
I learned a lot more about The Crucible and more in depth about it like the characters and and actually more on McCarthyism and mob mentality so I learned from other people from doing the content. I liked doing the Crucible because we already knew alot about it and it was useful to use my own knoweledge for another project and plus the Crucible was meant to be read for the Moral Crouage. So that was what the "MC" web was about (Moral Courage). I learned definatly how to make a site and how much it takes to put into a site and how hard it takes, and how inportant content is. I learned during why Mrs. Interlandi would tell us that content is most imprtant, it is because thats why people go on a site not just to look at awesome grafics its to learn more about this subject. So the content is what mainly people look at on a site so I definatly learned that content was best for our site but not just ours everybody's

REFLECTION
In this section, reflect on your experience. Did you like the project? Why or why not? How did you do? What would you do differently next time?
Sentence Starters
-I enjoyed this project because…
-I feel like I could have done better on this project because…
-Next time, I would...........
I liked this project because I thought that making a web was a great expierence and also doing it on The Crucible because we did it in drama class and the questions that I had about it for drama class were answered during thsi project. I think that I could've done a little bit better actually I think that my whole team could have done better on this site. I think that the grade shows everything that we got on this site and its the most important thing for any project. Next time I would know how imprtant content really is so I would try to just put all my hard work into it and just get as much done as I could or try to be doing something every minute I had. So that I would get a whole lot more done and our site would get the grade it really deserved.

ARTIFACTS
You should have at least one artifact from each project on your DP. What document, picture, or link will you have for this project?

My artifacts our on my site unfortunatly not all of them are but I have the sites that we used in the sources page of my website. http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/salem/SAL_CRU.HTM this is at least one of the links that I have used for this project.

NAME: Lexi Alvarez DATE: March 9th 2008
TITLE: Ida B TIME: 2 hours AUTHORKatherine Hannigan PAGES: 96- 194 TOTAL PAGES THIS WEEK: 98

Brief Discription: I have just gottten everything put together in my book it is all coming together now about why she does such strange things and why she talks to them. She really does not have many friends so the trees are the only friends she can talk to but they talk back so this is basically fantasy type.
Q: Do you think you would read another book by this author? Why or why not?
A: I think that I would because I like how different this little girl in the book is she is just not ordinary but still she is cool. I like how she tells her own story in that book like the kindergarden story to tell the reader how she ended up being homschooled. I just like different books and different characters in that book and thats why I would read another one of her books.
Q: Which character would you like (or not like) to be your friend? Why?
A: I would like to be friends with Ida B because she seems like a cool person to be with even though she is different. Even though she is weird she just seems really cool or like my kind of actual person to hang out with.

VOCABULARY:
1. It tells how she ever started getting homschooled. It explains part of her life to me. But unfortunatly her mother has started getting cancer I about cried when I found that out.

Q#1: What in the book upsets you or bothers you? Why?
A#1: Well there is a part that made me very sad is when Ida B's mom got cancer all of a sudden. It made me really sad because I sort of made a connection to Ida and I just could like imgine how sad I would be if I found out one of my family member's had cancer. Plus Ida B even asked her mom "Mommy are you going to die" and I just got soo sad from that one sentance.
Q#2: What was one of your favorite lines (or sentences) in what you read today?
A#2: "I stayed home and I learned and I had more fun then a kitten with twenty balls of yarn and three pretend mice". That was my sentance I liked how she related it to the kittens and they yarn because I can see that she was really happy. Because I know how my cat is when she gets around yarn and fake mice. This sentance was related to how happy she was to be homschooled.

Vocabulary
1: Truft- A bunch of thing clustered and put together.
2: Hauling- To pull something or force something.
3: Ether- It is liek chemistry or like something is attached.
4: Flitting- To move lightly or drift.
5: Somber- Dark light or gloomy light.

Name: Lexi Alvarez Date: March 2nd 2008
Title: Ruby Holler Time: first 1 hour
Author: Sharon Creech Pages: 58- 101
Total Pages: 43

Brief Discripition: Ok so I have continued my reading of Ruby Holler so far the two "trouble twins" have moved on to a new house with two older people. The two twins seems like they are not as bad as they were but still are a little bad, like breaking a window and breaking a wooden boat and a bird. It is littler stuff though not as big as it was when they lived with Mr and Mrs Trepid.
Q #1: What do you think about a particular character's actions? Was he/she right or wrong to do that?
A #1: I think that one of the twins Florida, the girl twin, is more of a trouble maker then the boy because she breaks more of the stuff then the boy. She seems like more then the trouble maker then both of the twinsso it surprises me that she is mainly the trouble maker then the boy. Because normally boys are more trouble maker then you think.
Q #2: What advice would you give to a particular character? Why?
A #2: I think that I would tell the twins to be less more trouble makers to the older people because I think that they never had trouble kids like them. In the book it tells that they had very good kids and since bthese kids are kind of bad I think that they should stop. I feel that they should be less of pains to these older people because they need help with these trips to these places.
Vocabulary:
1: Varnish- A surace that is glossy...... I am not sure because I did not find a real answer that I understood.
2: Mite- A small contribution...... had a hard time finding an answer
3: Nigh- Means to like be near in space or time
4: Whittle- To cut or shape something out.
5: Erm- An employee relationship........... did not give a good answer

Note: I have read 2 books so I have two books for extra creadit there is book number 1 and book number 2 so....... Thanks!!!

Name: Lexi Alvarez Date: 2-23-08
Title: Ida B Time: 1 hour and 15 minutes
Author: Katherine Hannigan Pages: 1-51
Total Pages this week: 50

Breef Discription: Ok I am reading this book called Ida B it is about a VERY different girl who literally talks to trees. She is very different such as she eats the same thing for lunch and breakfeast every day. She has to know what her schedule is every day because she wants to know if it is fun or not. Her own dad thinks she is sort of a mystery.

Q: What character do you like most in this book and/or what character do you like least? Why?
A : My favorite character is Ida B just because she is very different to me I have never read a book with this type of character. She is very simple, homschooled, eats the same thing everyday, has to know her schedule just very very simple young girl. Ida B has to be called that not Ida she will be very mad if she is ever called that.
Q: What does this book make you wonder about? Why?
A: This book makes me wonder what she is going to do farther on in the book because it has just started out with her life and what she does every day. But now it has started to make me wonder because it says in the book that there is a storm coming so it makes me wonder if something really bad is going to happen.
Q: What has surprised you in the book? Why?
A: What surprised me is that she talks to trees and different weird things. I thought in the biggining that maybe she would, be sort of normal. But nobody is normal everybody has something different about them she has to have everythign very simple like and I like that about her.

Vocabulary:
1: Rambunctious- This means to be sort of wild loud crazy active or noisy.
2: Awe- An overwhlming feeling like you are maybe just overwhelmed by somthing.
3: Furrow- Like a groove in something like you are making it very smooth or you are just grooving it basically
4: Mcintosh- A variety of blooming apples.
5: Rim- The outer part of something.

Note: I read two different books just because I do want extra credit so I think you have to comment on both..... Thanks!!!

Name: Lexi Alvarez Date: 2-22-08
Title: Ruby Holler Time: Hour and 15 minutes
Author:Sharon Creech Pages: 1-58
Total Pages: 57

Breif Discription:I am reading a book called Ruby Haller it is about these two kids who are very bad and do not fallow the rules in there house and so far it tells that they have tryed to move on to different house and they brought them back. So they are very bad, so bad that they had to be brought back to their house.

Q: What was one of your favorite lines (or sentences) in what you read today?
A: My favorite sentance in this book was "One of those peoplewho sent me and Dallas back, as if we were clothing that didn't fit". I liked this because of how she related it to like being returned like clothing because it is sort of like that and I just liked how she related it to something totally different.
Q: If you could change one thing in the book, what would it be? Why would you change it?
A: Even though I have bearly strted reading this book I feel that I would not make the kids as bad as they are. Because in the book it says they were bad since they were 5 years old. I do not really think that a 5 year old smashes down a jar of coins down to the floor out of an adults hands.
Q: What character do you like most in this book and/or what character do you like least? Why?
A: I like this one girl named Florida in my book. I like her because she is not a wimpy girl she is sorta tough she is one of the bad kids in ths story. She does not fallow the rules along with her twin brother Dallas. I like her just because she isn't one of those really not tough girls but she is tough its llike she can handle anything.

Vocabulary:
1: Cockamamie- Cockamamie means it is sort of rediculous or pointless to that person.
2: Putrid- It is word for like an awful smell or you are just disgusted by something.
3: Veering- This means to maybe peer over at something to turn and look.
4: Wrenching- Means to pull or turn something with powerful force.
5: Scuttled- This means to move at a fast pace..... The happy part of the ending was that they found their brother and it was happy for the sisters because they really missed him. Well I found the ending satysfiing because they got to see their brother what after I thought it was not because they did nto get to see their dad. The conflict that got solved was they finally got to see their brother and get to sleep with him knowing that he was their with them. The problem that remains is that they did not get to see their dad and that unfortubatly their mother died.
2: I think that maybe they do this is because they are living a different lifestyle and they want to observe other people's and hpw they act or react differently. I think that if was in their shoes I would deffinatly be observing them because to me they would be different people. Maybe the people act different and respond different and I would probably wanna see hwo they react to something like that.
3: I admire Yoko because I see her as a very strong girl for her age. If I were her I think that I would be scared. She had some pretty rough times in the book such as her mother died she did definatly care but she didn't let it hurt her she kept going to school trying to get money by herself. She seems as a very strong character in this book because she is very young and any thing could affect her and make her very scared but she stuck through it to the end.
4: I definatly learned a lot about the war and how bad it was that you actually had to leave her house and go on a train with a bunch of people and that sometimes you would have to do stuff to yourself just so you wouldn't get hurt. I still would like to know how she really actually went through all this as a young girl and how she could handle all of that. If I were her I would be freaking out and getting all scared I would not be capable of handling that.
5: I ould definatly learn about how sometimes you really half to toughen up to save yourself from getting hurt. How you really have to just control yourself when it comes to really bad situations. Just that sometimes when it comes to bad situations you have to sometimes just toughen up and take it.

OP #4

1) I think that she wants to help him because he wanted to go in the war but his language was bad. So maybe that she will help him with his speaking. He helps Yoko by taking her cans and selling them for her and getting money. I think that they do not have friends and want to help eachother.

2)Her plan did not work out because she wouild have gotten home to see her mother before she even died. Instead she was shining shoes to get money. Then Yoko finds out that her plan was not for school. The reason I thought they left is because it was very crazy for little one (Yoko) and Ko and mother to stay there. I thought that it was very crazy like the part when the man was pretty mich harrasing Ko about if she was a boy or not. Also when the man tried to get Yoko to move and get up and finally the mother had to pull out the nife.
B: I thought that they felt they had to lave him because they had waited enough for him and maybe they thought that he might have gotton hurt or something and got left behind. I would hate to think that they thought that way but they could have. I thought that he handled the part during the tunnel very well because he probably did not want to freak out in front of other people and have them do what he was doing. I think that he can take very good care of himself but he probably feels very lonely without his mom and sisters or even his dad. If I were him and I was walking alone through all these different place I would be very scared if I heard one noise.

2:) 1st I would choose one of my biggest/warmest Jackets that I have because I do not know where I will be going or what I will be doing. 2nd I would bring lots of water because I would not want to get dehidrated or whine every second asking for water. 3rd I would bring all of my money because you do not want to leave your house without your money because say our house could possibly get burned with your money in it. 4th I think that I would bring some of my warmest pants/warmest clothes because like I said you never what you are going to get yourself into. 5th I would bring like say apples oranges pears any type of dry food that would last me long enough so I could eat it fresh or at least eat it while its good. 6th I would bring my warmest blanket because you need to stay warm during the time. 7th I would bring a photo album because you may never see your family or friends or anybody again. 8th I woule bring some warm heavy duty boots to wear because you could be walking through anything so you want to make sure your feet stay warm and possibly dry. 9th I would bring a first aid kit because you could hurt yourself very easily whereever you are going to. 10th I would bring my personal Identification because if it was a war or say something else they would need to know who I was.

3:) I found it very upsetting when the Mother and Ko go up to the train each time to look for Hideyo. I thought that it was sad because they want him to be there every time and each time he is not there so I thought that, that part was pretty sad to me

All Coments

Ben- Did all
Mikito- Did all
Lexi- Did not do Jaylon's but the rest
Olivia- Did not do a comment on Ben's but did the rest (no post)
Levi- Did all
Jaylon- No comments at all

Blog Post #1

1: I think that Yoko's character of kind of scared little girl, I would definatly be scared if I was a young girl going all over the place during a war. Such as the part when they were in the train and they had to look really sick in front of the guys. It said "I did not move a flinch" or something like that, if that were me I would be so scared but from what it sounded like it did not seem that she was scared. Even though that I think she might be a scared little girl I think that she is also brave for doing all the different things, such as shaving her head and not eating for like 2 days. I dont think that I myself could ever realate to her because she is very brave to me and im not as brave as her.

2: Well I think that they dont seem like everyday sisters because Yoko calls her honorable sister and usually sisters DO NOT call themselves that. Although I am not sure about that because maybe in a different country they do that. In the beggining thay seemed very nice to eachother but right now in the book it seems that she is kind of mean and bossy. But I thought that when Ko carried Yoko on her back that, that was pretty nice of her because she probably new she was tired. Over all of there performance of sisters I think that they are just regular sisters being mean to eachother and also being nice to eachother.

3: I think that they reacted pretty calm, because what it seems like in the book they dont react really that dramatic to all that is going on. What Ko was doing was talking to the patients and making them feel comfortable instead of freaking out and drinking pee or jumping out of a train. What Yok0 did was shared a little food with all of the people around her and share her blankets since many of the people did not have that on hand. The mother was helping some woman with there baby's, such as when that one baby died she was supporting the mother even though she jumped out ofthe train. I thought that many of them did a little bit for others on the train and I thought that it was pretty nice for them to do that.

Weekly Vocabulary

Linger- Linger means to stay put in one spot for a very long time.

Astonished- To act sudden wonder or amazment like getting surprised.

Betray- To turn against someone, or like not doing what you were asked to do.

Jackal- A person who will do anything.

Grumbled- To speak in a very low voice but like mumbling in other words.

Weekly reading response

Name: Lexi Alvarez
Date: 11-16-07
Book: Among the imposters (the second book)
Hours: 1 hour 45 minutes
Author: Margaret Peterson Haddix
Pages: 1-79
Total Pages:78

Response: This is the second book of the Shadow Children sequence that I am reading as you know it is called Among The Imposters. This book caught up right where the last book started off from it starts out with him going into an all boys school no girls. The twist is that Jen's (Lukes friend) dad takes him to the school but in this onepart he says "my dad does not sign paper's". So I was thinking that maybe he does not do that because he is nervous that Luke is a shadow child and h as a secret identity.

Lukes secret identity now is "Lee Grant" because he does not want the government to fine him and take him away. I actually had a favorite sentance in the book it was "Luke slid his hand into his pocket, his fingertips touching the top of the note". I liked how they were so descriptive on that one sentance and how they said "his fingertips touching the top of the note". I could picture him reaching in his pocket and his fingertips just touching the note and grabbing. I just thought that was a really unique sentance just to tell me what he was doing.

Vocab Words

Anxiety-A way to react such as like by fear or of danger

gawked- To stare at a person in an aquard way

deceased- to act like you are dying such as acting or real life

rheumy- to cause something from happening (did not get god information)

attending- means to arrive somwhere or you were invited there. /Sentance: I was attending school that day.

Reading Response

Name: Lexi Alvarez Date: 11-2-2007 Title: Among the Hidden Hours: 1 hour 3o min.

Author: Margaret Peterson Haddix Pages: 51-115 Total Pages: 64 pgs

This book gets more more and more intersting by the minute I have no idea why I did not finish it. The main character Luke (shadow child) found nother kid that is a shadow child I was so surprised when they met because I thought that she really wasn't but when they got to know each other more he found out more about her. The suspense is killing me (just kidding). Mainly what this book is about is this one boy named Luke is a shadow child and he meets this girl one day and find out more and more about each other. Most of the time they have to sneak out of there house just to see each other.

Again I really don' think that I could ever realte to any of the kids in this book because I do not have to hide although Luke's brothers I can realte to because they do not have to hide. I am going to be starting the next book just to tell you I am so excited to see what happens in this book.

Vocab. Why?
This book has a lot of questions behind it like will he ever go outside of his house and why could you only have two children and not three. The thing is that he has to hide inside his house because he was the third child born and so he has to hide because it is illegal. I thought when I first hurd it, that why do they have to do that because right now you can have 3 and back then they only were aloud to have 2. I am not really saying that it is messed up, I am just saying why did it change or maybe it was just a made up thing in the book but if it wasn't i still thought it is wrong.

I dont think i could ever relate to the pages of the book i read because I have never had to hide from the outside. If I was luke (main character) I would try and get out there and breath in the air and enjoy the time that I get outside. Because in this one part of the book (the beggining) it says that he took his last breath of fresh air and went inside. So that just told me that wow he must not ever be able to go inside because it said "last breath of fresh air". That sentance just told me his whole life pretty much that he never got to go outside and he had to hide inside his ouse from the outside and can't even go by window's. I can't wait to continue my book and see what happens.

1) Well I think it means that you should not let anyone get in the way of your ideas or plans you should just make it your own. Never let other people or groups change who you are. I think how I could use this is that when people want to try and change me I can just remember that I am who I am and thats it.

2)Well I think that Robert definately changed a lot during the book. Actually he hasn't changed a lot but definatly has gone through changes. I remember like on part in the book when he comes to school in a suit and tie instead of regualr old clothes I thought that, that was a change. I think that after the wave is over he will definatly make sure that the project stays only with the class not the whole school, so I would think he learned his lesson about it. I think that he might go back to his regualr self again because he probably wants to just get over it. The wave to me if I was him it would be a hassle for me.

3)A: I actually saw agressive in this book because I remember when the boys were fighting and I thought that was being agressive. I dont know if I saw this but I thought that the kids who were in his class were sort of over ruling the Wave prject to the kids that just wanted to join.

4) “Avoiding Mob Mentality: A Practical Guide by A Middle Student, for Other Middle School Students.” I think that I would not be a victim of this is because I don't let other kids or groups change who I am. I will not let other people change who I am or what i wear or even how I act around other people. It is just like you are trying to take over someone else's life and trying to make it how you want it. My advice too some kids would be "don't let other kids take over who you are just be yourself". Also to make sure you find the find the right people to be around and not some bad kids who just want to change you.

Project Reflection

Project Title:Family History Project

Class: Humanities Dates: September-October

PURPOSE

In this section, explain what you were supposed to learn and what you were supposed to do.

Sentence Starters

The purpose of this project was to learn about…

In order to learn about _________________, we had to create/perform/
write/etc…

The purpose of this project was to basically learn about your own family history. In order to learn about my family history I had to do a lot researching. Plus wat gave me a lot of information from. Was my interview. Although the most fun part was making my scrap book. Because I got to go through all of my grandpa's old pictures and scrapbooks of his own. What we were mainly supposed to learn about was my grandpa's life in the service for the Vietnam War. There were a lot of steps some of them took time and some took 10 minutes some were hard and some were easy. I think if I had to ever rate this project from 1-10 I would rate it an 8.

WHAT I LEARNEDIn this section, tell what information or skills you learned or improved.

I learned a lot about my grandpa's life in the service for 3 years for the Vietnam War and what changes or emotions he went through during the service. Or even how he felt when he left for the service an if it was really difficult for him. I explored a lot about the Vietnam War. Like what they had to wear everyday or what they did and even what his job was everyday. Some of the skills learned were how to make a better looking scrapbook. Also how to do better research better without using wikepidia or some other websites that don't even work. Even though I have never done an interview before I have definitely asked questions. I learned how to make better in depth questions, and I think i I ever had to do another interview I would definitely know what to do.

REFLECTION

In this section, reflect on your experience. So I finally got to learn more about that time for him and actually interview him about him. I also liked how we got to put our own writing in there for our personal narrative because people could look at my work. So I liked it that my parent got to look at what I do everyday in school. I felt like I could've done better on the Historical Narrative because I did not spend all of my time on it. I thought did do good but I thought I could have done better. Next time I would get a less girlie scrapbook and maybe a more serious work like one but that is just one little thing. now everyone wants ot know about it and wants to sneek in the class. So since everyone is doing that Mr. Ross is just noticing how many people there are and so he wants to do more, which leads to getting out of control.

2) I absoloutly love the sentance on (PG. 62) when he had all the students say "Strength trough Discipline, Strength through Community, Strength trough action". It stood out to me most because I knew that the sentance was really true and every word in it I could relate to. Such as "Strength through Discipline" you do need discipline in doing any thing like in swim you have to push yourself. Also you have to have strength or you will just not suceed.

3) On pg. 66 aragraph 1 what do you think the word "glibly" means, I could not figure out what that means. So when the teacher says that the students get all excited and they just have to tell their friends. So if one student over hears a student from that class talking about it then that person will tell everyone about it. Plus they would probably be getting more and more interested about the motto and just want everyone to know.

2: The sentance that stood out to me most was "From now on, our community, our movement will be known as The Wave". It stood out to me best because I knew thatwhen he said "the wave" I knew that was probably where it all starts. So I sort of got excited because I knew that "wow" this is probably where it all starts about the wave.

3:My question is "Why do you think that everybody really wants to know about the wave motto so much"?????

The wave assignment #1

1: Well for the first four chapters it is mainly taking place in theirschool in the year of1969

2: I also learned that they are saying the pocket book instead of purse so it is not what we say today we say purse so that gave me a clue. I think that making fun of a kid on the first day of school is wrong it is just like judging book by its cover you dont even know what it's about until you read. I mean nobody wants to made fun of at anytime cuz it just hurts and believe me i know the feeling :).

    2. Was there any point YOU would have said something, when the narrator DID NOT speak up? Why/why not? Or would you have acted like she did? Try to be honest with yourself

Umm well i do not really get this question but I ill give it a shot. If i could change any part in it I would've not made the "making fun of her" so badly. Cuz as I said in question 1 I just dislike when people make fun of others.

    3. Re-read the last paragraph, and then decide: What is the theme(s) (moral or lesson) in this story?

Ok well I think that the first saying "Stick and stones only break bones" means that like if u make fun of someone you are only hurting them even though you are enjoying it. Well I think when she says "life has no erasers" it probably means that like if you make a big mistake you can never take it away from your life it will always be in ya or with you. So I would say that it is try not to make big mistakes in life but you know it happens mistakes happen. =)=)

seventh grade

My favorite sentance was probably the same one as you Mrs. I it was "The rosebushes of shame on his face became bouquetsof love". I think that there is a lot of feeling in it because instead of saying his face turned from red into glimmering shine and smile he put it in a totally different way. I just like could picture his face in a in my mind tuning from bright red to glimmering and smiling. Well I think that my spot that I could connect with was the first day of school for him and for me going in the first day of school this year in 7th grade. Like seeing all my friends and just knowing that I wouldn't have to go to school not knowing anyone. Like he had a friend but the only difference was that I did not like anyone on the first day of school so thats the only difference. So that was my connection for the story.

Test Assignment

Mrs. I read a story to us today called test by Theodore L. Thomas. Well she told us to say our favorite sentance so mine was............. "He listened to the purr of engine, and he was pleased with the sound". It was my favorite becaause because it sorta made me feel calm cuz everythin was going fine. Its like the only sentance that does not have to much but it still sounds good at the same time. And it is not one of those big descriptive sentences it was not to much for me. Well I dont really think that hypnosis is good for a driving test, because I believe that you should just do a natural driving test. Hypnosis I think is just wrong cuz I would not want to be hypnotized while driving. But on the other hand I think that it is a good learning lesson. Well I think that the guy meant like how will any of us know in other words. Also it is sort of obvious that he is saying how will we know maybe they are still trying to figure out if it is a dream or not cuz it could be anybodys.

Well Mrs. Interlandi if you would really wanna know what we watched..... ok here are some facts about the first one...... grassland!!!!!!

In the grasslands since there is pretty much all grass, there is no trees sooooo th birds that live in grassland have to nest on the ground which is very dangerous for them because other predators could take their eggs

The grass there even grows during winter and through snow!!!

Snow gease (does not mean they live in snow), best place to nest is in the grassland no other biome/place

Summer in the grasslands is the time for all the plants for growth & reproduction

Yaks (an animal that lives in grasslands) even eat grass when its frozen

Elephant grass (grass that grows there) is the tallest grass in the world, it will go over an elephant itself!

Just one elaphant will feed a heard of lions for a week

                                          NOW JUNGLES!!!!!!

The more magnificent/talented a male bird is the female will go for the best one she can get.

When the trees fall "by them selfs" it is a natural thing for them to do if the trees want to go on and new ones grow

Gathering food in the upper part of the jungle is easier for the animals, mainly the fig tree it is most popular

Most leaf/tree frogs come out at night to get food

Just one tree takes about a ton of water every year and what they don't take in returns to vaporin the air.

Thats pretty much whatI got hope you got some info on it!!!!!!!!!!!

my fav book from 6th grade

Ok so my book from 6th grade was Small Steps.
